My blood is not good enough

For 2 weeks I have been planning to give blood for our Stake Blood Drive. I signed up at church and since it has been a long time, I was excited to help save a life.
After work yesterday, I rush to the Stake Center and fill out the appropriate paperwork and wait. They finally call me in to the little room to ask me about my health, weight, and poke my finger with that awful little pokey thing. That is worse than filling up a bag with blood! The staff member proceeds to ask me if I am donating as a female...? WHAT??? Uh I look like a girl right? Sheesh! I just started laughing and asked him if he has ever been surprised by asking that question to someone. Ha ha ha. There are some weird people out there I guess! So after all of that, he says, oh no... Your red blood cells are low. Uh well I know my blood is red so what the heck does that mean? Apparently it is your iron. My iron was 11.8 and it needed to be 12.1 Are you kidding??? Come on just let me donate, I wont pass out I promise! Well he said sometimes your other had will be different, so he went to get another girl to test it. I take one for the team and let her stab my other finger with that awful poker. We wait and wait, and that one wont even read on the machine because its so low.

So I went home with 2 band aids and all of my blood, minus the 2 drops for the test of course.

DANG IT!!! Maybe next time...
